ProbOS Versatile Network Probing Solution

The Broadband Service Provider Network, to keep up with the ever-increasing performance demands, hosting new services, speeding up its development and deployment, is evolving to leverage on its topology.

Network Services, once monolithic and mainly located in the Core, thanks to their softwarization – SDN and NVFI – are becoming modular and their sections can be dynamically moved between Access, Edges, Core, or even outside the BSP in third party Clouds.

Given that any network location has its specific performance and cost tradeoff, how can a service optimal placement be objectively selected avoiding aleatory guesswork?

Network performance measurement is the obvious answer, but just collecting the classic bandwidth, latency, packet loss, and jitter indicators gives neither the insight nor the understanding needed to manage and optimize a network.

To provide essential solutions to those and other network measurement-related critical issues the Broadband-Forum nurtured the Broadband QED and IP-Layer Capacity Metric projects.

OutSys ProbOS Versatile Network Probing Solution, adding such projects' algorithms and specs to its toolset, offers a comprehensive solution not just to measure but to understand how a network and its services perform and whether and how they can be improved.
